5 steps that will help you create a great study space

Let's face it, school/college requires grit. It takes hard work, determination, and last but not least, an environment conducive to learning. Here are some great steps that will help you get started.

  1. Choose a location: Find an area that is free from distractions, and provides you with enough space to do your work. This space should be free from clutter, have ample lighting, and be quiet in nature.

  2. Organize: Remember that less is more. It can be tempting to purchase cute accessories for your workstation but keep in mind, these can get in the way if they are not functional. I recommend clearing the entire desk area, sitting down with your school work, and seeing how best you work. You may find you like to keep your pens in a cup to your right, and your papers to the left, for example. You may prefer to keep your books on a shelf or in a drawer, the point is you won't know until you sit down and begin to work.

  3. Shopping: Now that you have organized it is time to get the office items you need such as pen cups, and organizers. Remember to look around the house before you spend. You may be surprised what you will be able to find that you already have laying around.

  4. Personalize: Make your work space inviting. I choose white furniture, a cozy chair for comfort, and gray walls for my workspace. Choose items and colors that make you feel calm and relaxed, but not so relaxed you want to take a nap. You do have to work after all.

  5. Set a reasonable study schedule and stick to it. It is well known that the more you regularly complete a task, the more likely it is to become a habit. Good study habits will lead to productive work times.

There you have it! 5 tips to get your started. What types of work space advice would you share?
